Our First Spotlight On Women
The Front Royal Women’s Resource Center launched the program Spotlight on Women at the Calvary Episcopal Church on June 7, 2015. Elsie Upchurch was the honored guest, mesmerizing the attendees with stories of her inspiring life. Mrs. Upchurch flavored her responses with humor, illuminating details of Front Royal in the 1920’s, her experiences in New York as a graduate student at Columbia University as well as the astonishing accomplishments she has made in her life. These are highlighted by the recent establishment of the Children’s Garden at Samuels Library and the Norman H. and Elsie Stossel Upchurch University Center which is to be built on the campus of Longwood University, both of which are being realized through her generosity. Mrs. Upchurch is truly a remarkable woman who has spent most of her life giving to her community and was deserving of this initial spotlight.
The afternoon sparkled with light refreshments, music provided by David Chavez and a significant, meaningful time of fellowship. It is hoped that this is just the first of many endeavors by the Front Royal Women’s Resource Center to place a spotlight on women.
