Winter 2014 Newsletter

(January, February and March)

If I could choose one great gift that the world neglects I would choose feminine energy. It is what we need to save the world….Feminine energy is powerful because it is pure presence – gentle yet firm. It is energy that gives warmth, comfort, and spirit simply by its presence. It receives rather than takes. It invites rather than demands. It unfolds rather than controls. It empowers rather than overpowers. It finds itself in being rather than in doing. Feminine energy shows her best in leisure. She doesn’t take time. She has time. She has time to be. The world is starving for this energy.   – Marcina Wiederkehr, A Tree Full of Angels

Celebrating Women of Character, Courage, and Commitment

The great wheel of life has turned again and we are entering another new year with all of its possibilities and all of its mystery. Those of us alive in the world now are living through a period of tremendous change; life seems to be moving faster and faster and structures that we have depended on for so long no longer hold firm. Yet, in the midst of all the turbulence, we continue to gather together to share the stories and teachings of our lives in circles of women, friends and family. We thank each and every one of you for being part of our web of connection. Even in our small corner of the world, we are making our contribution towards a more peaceful world.

2014 marks the beginning of our eighteenth year of existence as the Front Royal Women’s Resource Center.

Friends have come and friends have gone and we have learned many lessons along the way but, throughout all these years we have continued to grow and thrive and we are grateful. We now move on to a new year of connecting and serving our community through empowering women’s lives.

Each year, The National Women’s History Project (NWHP) chooses a theme for National Women’s History Month. This year’s theme is Celebrating Women of Character, Courage, and Commitment. In the words of the NWHP this theme “honors the extraordinary and often unrecognized determination and tenacity of women. Against social convention and often legal restraints, women have created a legacy that expands the frontiers of possibility for generations to come. They have demonstrated their character, courage and commitment as mothers, educators, institution builders, business, labor, political and community leaders, relief workers… and CEOs. Their lives and their work inspire girls and women to achieve their full potential and encourage boys and men to respect the diversity and depth of women’s experience.” -NWHP

It is in this spirit that we are happy to announce our upcoming winter programs that honor our local women of character, courage and commitment: our membership mixer where you will meet and mingle with some of the fine women of Warren County, our Dare to Dream breakfast where you will meet the women who are moving forward in their lives with the help of our grant programs and the library program where you will meet an adventurous woman who hiked the 2,200 mile Appalachian Trail. We hope that you will join us.
