Clinging leaves dance in the wind, while those that shimmy down
join the sticks that had announced their descent on the roof. This
year redbud leaves are black and dry, so eyes turn to remaining flowers
and higher mountains for color.
The park is open, entrance free, welcoming a massive exodus from
the weight of daily news to the uplift of beauty and nature. Blacksnakes
are determined to come in the house. Uninvited, but persistent, on occasion
succeed. The yard, gardens and decks are shared with the mountain critters
Please, allow me the house!
As the sun retreats south and days shorten and cool, native inhabitants
must adapt to the changing season, fewer wildflowers and more mosquitoes
as must I.
