Spotlight on Women
The program, Spotlight on Women, was established in 2015 to honor women of Warren County whose dedication and strength of purpose assisted them in serving the community for many years. The Spotlight program has a rotating format, at times honoring one single woman at other times it has a panel format with a theme. The single woman format brings forth women who have unselfishly, made considerable contributions to the betterment of their community and, in so doing, touched the lives of many in their wake. Spotlight on Women illuminates women and topics for the community at large.
Our first woman to be recognized was Elsie Upchurch. Born in 1920, Mrs. Upchurch, illuminated the lives of many with her dedication to service, she had degrees from Longwood and Columbia Universities and was a guidance counselor and English teacher. She was active in many local organizations and played music every Sunday for the Rockland Community Church for many years.
